New Till Close, more control, zero discrepancies

One of those updates to the Last.app POS has finally arrived — the kind that not many people asked for, but one we'd been wanting to do for a long time. One of those things we do every day that, out of habit, ends up being invisible.

But here it is: a well-deserved overhaul of the till close. Much more useful, more informative, and — why not say it — genuinely great-looking.

Until now, the till close was exactly that: a button, a formality, and on to the next thing. It did its job, but if it's the critical moment where you validate all the money from a shift, why do it blind?

Why did we rethink this?

We wanted the close to stop being a simple administrative formality and become a real operational control tool. The goal was clear: give you more visibility, reduce friction on the floor, make the process more flexible and avoid those classic surprise discrepancies.

From button to mini-report: here's what changes

  • Full visibility on a new main screen: Before confirming, you see a clear summary of the restaurant's overall status, a breakdown by payment method and any discrepancies detected.
  • No more blocks and rigid processes: The close is no longer strictly linear. If you exit the flow by mistake, you can always return to the main screen and pick up where you left off.
  • Total clarity — closing a shift or closing the day? Quick actions let you decide directly whether you want to close just the shift or do a full end-of-day close.
  • Independent closes per terminal: Close each till separately for exact control per shift.
  • Close the day even with tills already closed: A button on the staff screen lets you close the day and generate the final report, even if all tills had already been closed.
  • Smart operational alerts: The system warns you before you close if someone left their shift open or there are hanging tables.
  • Fully revamped X and Z reports: The preview before printing now comes with much richer data and more accounting clarity.

The real impact on your day-to-day

Fewer human errors, much faster balancing and impeccable traceability. Above all, the peace of mind of knowing everything is perfectly in order when you hit Close.

FAQ

1. Is the new process slower?

Not at all — the POS still flies as fast as ever. You spend a few seconds looking at the screen, but you save the minutes of correcting errors afterwards.

2. Can I still close tills independently?

Yes, of course. Each terminal closes at its own pace for full control per shift or per device.

3. What if I spot a discrepancy just before closing?

You see it on the pre-close screen. Identify it immediately, adjust what needs adjusting and avoid juggling the accounts the next day.

4. Does this affect my accounting reports?

Only for the better. Your reports now include more information and improve traceability of every penny.
